Friends and Family,
1977…took my first nap. 1983…got free ice cream for perfect attendance in 2nd grade. 1985…scored the winning run in little league baseball. 1992…I got my first truck (and speeding ticket). 2000…saw the world record broken for number of pizzas produced in Switzerland. 2004…doggy paddled, training wheeled, and crawled to the finish line in Brazil.
I have definitely lived quite a blessed life – but nothing has been like the incredible experiences of the last 12 months. I’ll be brief, but I wanted to include you, my friends and family, in the whirl-wind of exciting events and updates.
First
and foremost, on August 20th, 2005 I asked
the woman of my dreams to marry me, and she said yes. You have
probably heard the
story (pics),
and hopefully each of you has had the chance to meet the wonderful Miss Carolyn
Joe, but she is the person that will make the upcoming years of my life far
better than the previous. I could go on all day – but Carolyn is brilliant
(Wake Forest undergrad). She is incredibly gifted as an artist (see a full
showing of her art at
www.carolynjoe.com) and as a chef (as a recent graduate of the Le Cordon
Bleu Culinary program at the Texas Culinary Academy). But most importantly
Carolyn is the fun, honest, and beautiful woman that I can’t wait to spend the
rest of my life with.
On
December 22nd, 2005, Carolyn and I dined on Philly cheesesteaks as we
opened a letter from the Wharton School @ Upenn
with my acceptance to the full-time MBA program. I’m very honored to
have the opportunity to pursue my graduate business studies at
Wharton and am
excited about experiencing all the northeast has to offer.
On
January 4th, 2006 my beloved Longhorns were
crowned National Champions and we were there to see it. Growing up
with burnt orange blood running through my veins, and as a longtime season
ticket holder, having the Rose Bowl scoreboard light up with the words ‘Texas
Longhorns National Champions’ is something I’ve waited my entire life to see.
Carolyn (who has also become quite the Horns fan) better shake me before I swear
to name our first born Vince Young. Hook ‘em.
With
your help, I think we can together make this an even more incredible year for
Texas 4000 for Cancer presented by Sense Corp.
I’ve had the honor of Chairing the Board of this remarkable non-profit made up
of students and cancer fighters that will ride their bikes some 4500+ miles from
Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska this summer. They will spread hope and
knowledge about fighting cancer in communities all across North America. While
we might not be able to join them pedaling across the Rockies, with your
generous donation, together we can raise over a quarter million dollars this
year benefiting the American Cancer Society and research at M.D. Anderson Cancer
Center. Donate today!
On
June 3rd, 2006, I will look down the grassy aisle at the
Dallas Arboretum to see my beautiful bride.
Carolyn and I could not be more excited about our upcoming wedding. (only 5 more
days!) We are blessed to have such incredible friends and family supporting us
as we join our lives. You can find more information and pictures at
www.troydaniel.com.
After
the wedding and Caribbean honeymoon – Carolyn and I will take advantage of
having a month off this summer before school to
backpack through Eastern Europa. We’re not sure exactly where our
travels will take us, but we are starting in Dubrovnik, Croatia (pictured) and
will weave through Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic and the likes on our way to
see Jason Joe and family (Carolyn’s brother) in Düsseldorf, Germany. Wish us
many fun adventures and tasty food carts along the route.
And
lastly – we hope you will come visit us in Philadelphia. We have already signed
a two year lease on a historic brownstone apartment and can’t wait to share with
you the City of Brotherly Love.
